Improve Your Health With Omega-3 Fish Oil

It is important to strike a balance between omega-3 and omega-6 oils in your body. Diets rich in marine and plant sources provide this. However, people today have too much omega-6 in their body as a result of eating food prepared with most oil, butter and margarine. These foods include fast food, fried food, and processed food. This imbalance results in a deficiency of omega-3 fatty acids causing increased levels of the immune system chemicals that promote inflammation and autoimmune disease. Omega-3 fatty acids reduce inflammation .

Deficiencies of omega-3 fatty acids can result in heart disease, arthritis, psoriasis, and other serious illnesses. Studies have shown that omega-3 intake is associated with a lower cancer risk. Countries with high consumption of fish such as Japan and Iceland have much lower rates of cancer than people living in other parts of the world. In contrast, a “western” diet that is low in omega-3 fish oil is associated with rising cancer rates possibly as a result of ingesting high amounts of saturated and trans fatty acids and omega-6 fatty acids.

In 2006, the FDA approved the use of fish oil supplements for lowering triglycerides, reducing arrhythmia, reducing blood clot formation and reducing inflammation. Several studies have shown that omega-3 fish oil can easy the pain and inflammation associated with arthritis.

It is now recommended that we eat 2-3 servings of fish per week. However, most westerners don’t do that either because they don’t like fish or don’t know how to cook it. An additional area of concern is the amount of pollutants
and mercury fresh fish contain. The easy solution to these problems is to incorporate omega-3 fish oil supplements into our diet

You can evaluate the quality of the supplement by following these simple guidelines:

Buy only pharmaceutical grade omega-3 fish oil. This assures you that the supplement has been produced under the same strict procedures required for the production of prescription medications.

The manufacturer must follow the Good Manufacturing Practice Regulations that have been promoted by the US Food and Drug Administration. These regulations require that manufactures of nutritional supplements take proactive steps to ensure that their products are safe, pure, and effective.

The omega-3 fish oil must be molecularly distilled, ensuring that all pesticides, dioxins, PCBs, heavy metals, and mercury have been removed. The manufacturer must have the product independently tested for potency and purity.

You really can improve your health with omega-3 fish oil supplements.
